Here's the LP art for School of Language's new record, 45. Out on vinyl and CD from Memphis Industries in July, and already up on Spotify, etc. Big thanks to Kev Dodsdale for design support, Pete Brewis for photography, and of course Dave Brewis for the laughs, direction, and the album itself.

she makes war

Towards the end of last year, my friend Laura passed my details to her friend Laura, who records under the name She Makes War.
Laura's idea (that's the second Laura, keep up) was to ask a few people to submit drawings, each illustrating a song from her forthcoming album, Little Battles. That sounds like fun, I thought. I remember poring over the illustrations that came with The Who's Tommy LP as a kid (and being terrified by half of them), and Gary Lund's illustrated insert to Harry Nilsson's 'The Point' is one of my favourite things in the world, ever. Oh, and the cover (and insert artwork) from 'Tricks Of The Shade' by The Goats is bloody marvellous, too.
And so, with those heady heights in mind, I told Laura I was game, she sent through the lyrics to a song called 'Never Was', and I set to drawing. Of course, I didn't manage anything as eye-busting or memorable as the stuff I mentioned above but there you go.
On Saturday, my copy of the album showed up in the post, and here - in the lyric book - is my drawing.

Other people who took part include:
- Emma Carlisle
- Morgan Gleave
- Alex Milway
- Marnie Pitts (who also drew the cover for the album)
- John Riordan (who has blogged about his drawing here.)
- Viviane Schwarz
- Frøydis Simonsen
- Rebecca Strickson

motorcycle

I can't believe I haven't posted this already. Some CD promos for Keith John Adams from last year? It must have been.
Anyway. Have a listen to Keith here...

actual sarandon single

Happy 2009!
Here's the Sarandon single I did the artwork for way back when. It came out just before Christmas, and should you want to get your hot little hands on one, try Rough Trade (and othere reputable record stores).

grifter
Here's an 'old' one...

... by which I mean 'I did it ages ago, but it's only just come out'.
Grifter are a band from Plymouth. They make that kind of balls-out rock (I think that needed to be in bold) that's influenced by Black Sabbath, Scissorfight and Clutch. My mate Phil plays bass for them -and at the end of 2006(!), he asked if I'd draw a picture for the cover of the band's new CD. I said yes, Phil. I'll draw you a picture if you like.
That new CD finally got a release (of sorts) a month or so ago. In this interview, Ollie from the band explains the delay, and also mentions the cover and how the character I drew has been adopted as the band's mascot.
Be warned though, he does a swear.

other people's records

Here's my artwork* for Sarandon's new single, out on the Little Car label some time in the near future.
It's cracking stuff (I mean the record, not my drawing) - all itchy, scratchy hyperactive guitar riffs and, on the b-side, a caffeined cover of the Swell Maps' 'Vertical Slum'. I recommend all readers buy a copy, if only for the sheer beauty of the packaging, eh what.
*not all on my own, mind you. I had a bit of design help here and there, from both Sheran and Crayola. Thank-yuh, kindly, chaps.
