As news of Pulp's reformation is all over the web, I've had another crack at drawing Jarvis Cocker (not the modern bearded version, as such, but certainly a more recent version than this one).

It's just pencil and a quick bit of photoshopping at this stage, but I might work this up into something more finished.

Jim from The Royle Family (christ, look at those poorly drawn legs) and a couple of others from about -ooh, 10 years ago? Something like that anyway.

big train

This sketch is from the second series of Big Train. I did the caricatures that Kevin Eldon's 'drawing' in it, back when I was - I dunno - 25 or something. I remember how when the coffee-stained piece of A4 with the script on was biked over, my flatmate looked at it and said 'that doesn't sound very funny'.

I can only look at the drawings through my fingers, now; they make me cringe so much. Given a second chance I'd do a much, much better job but hey - they only gave me half an hour or so to get them done, and they never actually paid me in the end. So I guess we're quits.

last laugh

It's rough and ready, and very much a 'first go', but I enjoyed this. It took me back to my days drawing comics with Jim et al.

It's not very good this, but I've just been watching her at the Brit Awards. So it'll do for now.

Done in stodgy crayon, pencil and cut-up parts of a magazine* - to accompany a review of (and drawn from the inner sleeve of) Pulp's 'This is Hardcore' LP. So, from 1998, I think.



*Now. Not that it's great (it definitely looks better smaller) but looking back at these 'before I really started using my computer' drawings has made me want to get back to basics; and get some of the texture and feel that comes with pen, ink and paint back into my stuff.
